Official guide
Rainbow Trout
Vermont Fish & Wildlife Department
Gives separate preferred bands for stream rainbows (54–66°F) and lake rainbows (45–64°F) against a 77°F upper tolerance, which is what lets you rule out water in midsummer. Spawning is a spring stream event, March to May, in fine gravel at the tail of a pool.
Why it made the list: Fetched 2026-09-08: page loads under Vermont Agency of Natural Resources branding with both temperature ranges and the March–May window.
