Yellow perch — Fishes of Wisconsin
Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources
Spawning comes just after ice-out, April or early May at 45–52°F, right behind walleye. Perch are random spawners that build no nest, so there is no nest-guarding phase to key on — what concentrates them instead is schooling, in hundreds, over cooler deep water.
Why it made the list: Fetched 2026-09-08: page loads with the 45–52°F post-ice-out spawning text, the note that it follows walleye, and the schooling behaviour.
